Indonesia is one of the most beautiful countries in Southeast Asia. There are plenty of places worth visiting and many activities that you can do to keep yourself entertained for a long time.

Here is a list of the things that you must do when you visit Indonesia:

Visit the Rice Fields in Ubud

This is the trademark of Indonesia. The rice fields in Bali are some of the most beautiful ones in the world. There are many rice paddies that you can visit but the most popular ones are Tegalalang and Campuhan Village, both in Ubud.

To visit Tegalalang just drive through the Ubud-Kintamani road and you will reach it in 20 minutes approximately. There are very nice panoramic views from the road which are great for pictures. If you want to visit the rice fields, you will have to pay a small entrance fee which should cost less than USD 1.

The Campuhan Ridge Walk is one of the most popular activities for many people in Ubud. The rice fields are very close to the town and can be easily reached by foot. To read more about this walk, click here.

Try the Luwak Coffee

The Kopi Luwak is a type of coffee that is made from the excrement of an Asian palm civet. The animal eats the coffee cherries and then defecates them. The farmers later collect the beans, clean them and then roast them.

The Luwak coffee is also known as the most expensive coffee in the world. However, there is a place in Ubud, Bali where you can try it for less than USD 5. This place is called Bali Pulina and they offer free tours around their coffee plantations explaining the production process of the Kopi Luwak.

Hike Mount Rijani

Indonesia´s second highest volcano is one of the most difficult but rewarding hikes in the whole country. The trek takes three days although you should be able to reach the summit on the second day.

Even though some travelers have been able to do it without a tour guide, I would definitely recommend getting one. The hike can be stressful if the weather conditions are not the best.

Nonetheless, once you reach the summit or get a good view of the crater rim, you will know that the hike was worth it.

You can book the trek through Kotasi Tours & Travel in Senggigi, Lombok. Phone 08175797547.

Visit the Komodo National Park

Indonesia is the only country in the world where you can see Komodo Dragons. These special creatures live in the Komodo and Rinca islands, near Flores.

You can visit the islands by boat from Flores or take the four day boat trip from Lombok to Flores.

The trip can be booked with Kotasi Tours & Travel in Senggigi, Lombok. Phone 08175797547. If you are traveling solo, ask them to arrange the trip with Soka Tours.

Sunrise at Borobudur

Borobudur is the biggest Buddhist Temple in the world and part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is located in Java, Indonesia and has some of the most spectacular sunrises that you will ever see in Southeast Asia.

The temple has hundreds of Buddha statues and Buddhist stupas worth seeing. The only problem is that it is one of the main attractions in Indonesia, which is why constantly visited by hundreds of tourists every day.

Dive in Flores

Flores offers some of the best dives that you can get in Southeast Asia. There are plenty of manta rays, sharks and turtles that will keep you entertained while you dive. The currents can get very strong so its not the best place to do it if you are a beginner, though.

If you are based in Labuan Bajo, definitely go for the dives in the Komodo National Park. You can book your scuba diving trip through Uber Scuba Dive Shop.

Watch the Sunrise in Mount Bromo

Mount Bromo is one of the most popular volcanoes in Indonesia because its still active, its beautiful and easy to reach. Bromo is located at 2.329 mts above sea level in the island of East Java.

To get to Mount Bromo, you can book a tour from a town called Malang.

However, you can also visit this amazing volcano without a tour guide. Read “How to visit Mount Bromo without a tour guidehere.

Party in Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan, also known as “Gili T” is the main party island in Indonesia, besides Bali. This small island has crystal clear water and white sand beaches, although some are full of dead corals. Gili T is great for diving, snorkeling and partying.

As a matter of fact, every night a different bar hosts the main party in the island. Things can go crazy in Gili T since there is no police control over the island, allowing people to consume lots of alcohol and drugs. Nonetheless, the vibes in Gili Trawangan are some of the nicest ones in Indonesia.
